How to Set Up Direct Deposit with Chime
At Chime, we are about bringing financial peace to you. Whether it is getting your salary first, getting support when you overdraft, or working on your credit score, we always have your back. And the first step to unlock these awesome features is the installation of direct deposit.
If you haven’t set it yet, then you’re in the right place! We’ve outlined two easy ways to get your payment account started in your Chime account.
How to set up direct deposit
To set up a direct deposit, you need to have your routing number and account number. You can find this information in your Chime app under Settings. Tap that gear icon at the top left of your screen and you will see it under account information.
Manual through direct deposit form
Go to Settings> Account Information> Direct Deposit> Get Direct Deposit Form
If you click on “Get direct submission form”, we will email you the PDF version of the form immediately.
Check your email, and open the PDF form.
In the “Amount” section, check one of the following boxes: deposit my full salary, deposit $ __ dollars of my salary, deposit __% of my salary.
Choose the amount of your salary you want to deposit and sign at the bottom.
In the “Authorization” section, type in the name of your employer or payer.
Sign in and send it to your HR department, payroll provider, or manager!
Automated through employer portal
To update your payment method, login directly to your payroll provider portal (eg, ADP).
Enter your account information in the portal.
Choose the amount of your salary you want to deposit and save your changes.
Confirm with your HR department, payroll provider, or manager that everything was set up correctly.
Note: If you are depositing unemployment benefits then you can follow the same steps. Just make sure that you are using your state government portal instead of your payroll provider.
Benefit of Direct Deposit
Once your direct deposit is all set and approved by your employer, you can expect to receive your first chime deposit within your next 2 payment cycles.
On top of that, you will unlock all kinds of new features as a Chime member! Here’s something:
Get your deposit directly two days in advance. This is a facility that we make available to you as soon as your employer deposits it – which is usually up to two days in advance, when most traditional banks provide you with money.
Our SpotMe feature allows you to overdraft up to $ 100 if you purchase with a debit card at no charge. All Chime members with $ 500 or more in monthly qualifying direct deposit are eligible for nomination.
Eligible Chime members can get access to our first-ever secured credit card, which helps you build credit over time by offering automatic payments and reporting your progress to major bureaus every month. There is no credit check to apply, plus there are no fees, no interest, and no minimum security deposit.
In short, direct deposit is easy and free. And by doing so, you are able to get the most from Chime by paying in advance, over drafting without fees, and working on your credit!
How long does it take to get a direct deposit with Chime?
Chime does not hold direct deposits, so can deposit direct deposits at any time throughout the day. As soon as the Chime receives it from your employer, it will post to your account. If you need your paycheck as soon as you arrive, you can set up a notification through the Chime mobile banking app to receive alerts when payments are made early.
How does the initial direct deposit feature of Chime work?
The initial deposit system of Chime is easy to understand and easy to use. It is said that your employer pays you every Friday. You can assume that you will get your funds on the same day, but many banks will handle your direct deposit. If this is the case, the money may not be posted to your account until the following week, possibly less money than you will get all weekend.
A chime direct deposit in your bank account can occur as early as Wednesday – two days before it becomes due. You will get a notification directly on your phone with good news. Best of all, you do not have to raise a finger to deposit your paycheck or risk if you lose a paper check on the way to the bank.
Early direct deposits are also a great way to help you avoid overdraft fees. In addition, you can build a positive payment history with your landlord, utility company, or lender to pay your bills on time.
Will Chime Collect my Stimulus Check?
As with most banks, if you provide the IRS with your Chime routing number and bank account number, you will receive your incentive check directly in your account.
How to sign up for the initial direct deposit program of Chime
You will need a bank account with chimes before making a payment. Opening one is simple. You can apply for an online account or by downloading an app for iPhone or Android. You must enter the following information:
- your name
- Social Security Number
- Email address
Once you are approved for an account, you will have to give your employer your Chime bank account number and routing number, which you can find by tapping on “Move Money” in the app.
Depending on how your employer handles direct deposits, you may have to fill out and sign a company direct deposit form authorizing your employer to deposit your paycheck directly into your account. Or you can print or download the “Move Money” section of the Chime App and give it to your employer.
